Do you mind saying why using these words is offensive?
Can you tell me why I must come from a long line of Greeks so that I can use basic English words? Because I’m sorry, but thats ridiculous. Following your logic, I shouldn’t even be allowed to speak English, seeing as how it’s derived from many, many other Languages. I guess that means anyone who wasn’t born a citizen of (ancient) Rome can’t study medicine, science or law because according to this, they have no right to utter a single word of Latin.
I don’t understand how you wouldn’t want people to use Greek derived words. Don’t you think it just goes to show the widespread reach of Greek culture, and the impact that it’s had on the very language we speak? Hell, democracy is Greek! Cultural Appropriation happens. It’s not always a bad thing. Philosophy isn’t bad. Mathematics, I’m told, isn’t bad, nor is our number system. I guess what I’m saying is that you can’t argue to take away the Greek facet of English-speaking and Western culture with out taking it all away, and then guess what youre left with?
